passportAs you are reading this, you probably think that I have already arrived safe and sound in Amsterdam.  No, I have not.  In fact, I’m still at home right now.  Everything was great and smooth until we were about to get our boarding passes.  When they looked at our passports, they said my son’s passport had already expired.  Of course we were not allowed to board on the plane, and we did not have enough time to get a new passport.  In the end, we had to reschedule our trip and pay very expensive penalties for our tickets (designer bag expensive) *sigh*.

On top of all that, we felt so bad for our friend that generously offer to take us to the airport, which is not close to where we live.  She had to drive back and forth just because of this expired passport incident.  Today, we drove a total 130 miles going all over the place trying to fix this mess.

Even though the whole day was a total mess, something good came out of it.  After, we got back from the state department in San Francisco, we went to Costco to take my son’s passport pictures.  While I’m waiting, an old man came up to me and asked where I’m from, and told me that he thinks I have a beautiful face.  I know that he is old and he’s probably does not have a clear vision.  But hey after a whole day of stress at least I have something to smile about. FYI, I stayed up until 5 o’clock in the morning to do last minute packing, and I did not put any make up, not even powder when I walked out the door.  So, I’m very sure the old man is just trying to be nice.  He probably knew that I had a rough day and needed a little bit of cheering up.
