I almost jumped out of my chair when I saw this Chanel bag. Not because I like it so much or because I have to have it. I was so surprised because it looks A LOT like my old Desmo bag that I’ve been trying to sell. I wanted to sell it for a while but I am too lazy to post it on eBay. Now that I’ve seen this Chanel I might not sell my old bag at all.
Usually when I see two similar bags I always assume that the cheaper one copies the more expensive one. However, after considering the timeline when these bags hit the market, this assumption was false. Now, I’m not saying that Chanel is copying Desmo (gosh, I hope not! cause that will be sad), but isn’t it a strange coincidence?
Here is my old Desmo (I think I had it for 3 years already). Don’t you think they have an uncanny resemblance? The obvious differences would be the Chanel logo, the amount of grommets, and the comfort leather slips on the Desmo chain (but they are very easy to remove). I’m sure the Chanel lambskin would be so much softer than the Desmo bag, since it is probably priced 10 times more than the Desmo. That’s the least we can expect, right? After all, the ingenious design factor is already out of the door.
There are fifteen bags from the new Chanel Paris-Moscou 08/09 collection, and this is the one bag that I like the most from the entire collection. I like the pyramid effect quilt, as it is more appealing compared to the regular Chanel quilt.
To me, this whole bag just look like a comfy pillow, I’m sure that if you have this bag you would want to cuddle with it all the time, especially with the ultra soft Chanel lambskin. Everything about this bag is full of the Chanel signature: The quilts, the chain shoulder strap and just in case you are still not aware of it, there is always the Chanel charm.
This is the bag that I like the least from the Chanel Paris-Moscou 08/09 collection. I’m not a world class designer, but I think that without the red wool, the bag will look less hideous. I’m sure this is more of a collectors’ item, since I can’t imagine why anyone would want to buy this bag, except maybe for descendants of the Russian elite. It happens that this bag is full of Russian historical symbols.

I am pretty impressed with B.Makowsky bags. First of all, they have good quality. Neat stitching, fine leather, and some great designs. Second, their prices are reasonable unlike some high end designers who ask for thousands of dollars in exchange for their canvas bag.
I like this pleated satchel, it doesn’t have too much going on, but still manages to look interesting. I also like the hardware. In my opinion, gold toned hardware looks better on white bags compared to silver toned hardware. The bottom corners’ hardware is a combination of good design and functionality. When we throw our bags around, the corners tend to suffer the greatest wear and tear. However, with hardware protecting the corners, the bag will stay nice longer.
There is another variant of this same model on which the hardware does not cover the bottom corners, but instead covers the top corners. I prefer the one with the hardware on the bottom (pictured). From Nordstrom $298
At first sight, I thought this bag was made of fabric because of the way the pleats looked. I was pretty impressed when I found out that it was actually made of leather. This means that the leather must be very supple to be able to do that “dress-like” design.
Zooming into the bag, it does look like the leather is as soft as butter! The lizard skin trim and buckle add a bit more interest and texture to the bag without making it look too “animally” like a full blown exotic bag.
On top of that, I’m also loving the fact that it has minimal hardware, which means that it must be light. Enough already with the heavy bags! I just want to look stylish and not break my back. We are already wearing heels, why do we have to carry a heavy bag as well?
